MORE ABOUT US
Our History
Muslimat Al-Nisaa, originally organized in 1987, is a non-profit organization established to provide culturally sensitive health, education and social services to Muslim community women and children. In 2005, co-founders Asma Hanif and Dr Maryam Funches, recognized the need to add a shelter program to the original organizational objectives
Our Program
Muslimat Al-Nisaa HOME Center was designed to address the problem of homelessness within the Muslim community. The need for shelter is a basic human need. Muslimat Al Nisaa HOME Center seeks to provide shelter, skills training, medical care, employment assistance, and counseling to foster economic self-reliance in its participants. Participants are encouraged to engage in program development to the fullest extent of their abilities
Our Work
Muslimat Al Nisaa and its members are visible, active contributors to community projects and programs. Furthermore, the organization has received support from the community and religious leaders, professional and lay personnel, and other social service organizations across the DC/MD/VA area and as far away as California. Recently, Muslimat Al Nisaa received a commendation from the Mayor of Baltimore City, Sheila Dixon, for their work with the homeless population in Baltimore. All Praise to God, with your help, our work continues to be widely recognized.
